A plain cake with great toppers looks like a bakery cake. A plain cake without them looks like... a plain cake. These printable cake toppers are the easiest upgrade in party history: eight round designs with birthday messages, numbers, and cute little icons — cut them out, tape them to skewers or straws, and stick them in the cake.
The whole thing takes ten minutes and costs basically nothing, which is my favourite kind of party decoration. They work on store-bought cakes (no judgment — I've done it), homemade cakes, and even a stack of cupcakes pushed together when you're really in a hurry.
Print on cardstock so they stand up straight in the frosting. And here's a mom trick: print an extra set for the smash cake photos, because the first set will not survive the birthday kid.
Save the toppers after the party — tuck them in the birthday box with the card. Next year you'll pull them out and laugh at how small the cake was compared to this year's.
Cut out the circles, tape each to a wooden skewer, straw or toothpick, and stick into the cake.
Cardstock — it needs to stand up in frosting without flopping over.
The set includes 1, 2, 5 and 10 — write your own number on a blank one for other ages.
