Every kid remembers their first word search — the triumphant circling of C-A-T, the intense concentration, the showing-everyone-in-the-room. This easy 10×10 grid hides ten simple words (CAT, DOG, SUN, FISH, BIRD, and friends) and is designed as the perfect first puzzle.
The words run across, down, and diagonally, but they are all short, all common, and all findable — no trickery. That matters: a first word search should end in victory, not tears. Circle each word as you find it and cross it off the list; the crossing-off is half the joy.
Once this one is conquered, our bigger word search puzzles are the natural next step. Print a few copies of this one first, though — kids like to redo easy puzzles fast, and “beat your own time” is a game that never gets old.
